MBC & Mission

American Baptist mission, started by Adonirum Judson in 1813, became Burma Baptist Missionary Conference: BBMC in 1865. That is the beginning of Myanmar Baptist Convention: MBC.

MBC Mission Now

MBC now is comprised of 1,612,350 members, 1929 local churches, 115 associations, 18 regional conventions and 2directly affiliated churches. Though the leadership abruptly transferred to the nationals in 1963, after military coup in 1962, with much struggles MBC has never lost its mission to evangelized and plant churches. After mission in transition and crisis periods through 1970s MBC gained its foothold in 1980s. The revival of MBC itself and its churches comes with AD 2000 Mission (1990-2000). After this, during Mission to the Plain (1998-2002)period, 39 mission fields were launched and 25 churches were planted. Now 30-50 churches are planted annually. As the result the number of Baptist churches after bicentenary mission celebration will be over 5000.

Golden Myanmar Baptist Mission

Since 2003 a new mission project, entitled Golden Myanmar Baptist Mission: GMBM (2003-2013), was lunched. Churches reached out to their neighbors and 805 fields are opened. To mark the Baptist Mission Bicentenary 230 are chosen as model mission fields and 201 become new churches. Now, they begin to do mission work themselves.

Golden Myanmar Baptist Mission, Second Decade(2014-2024)

Main mission thrust of MBC in church planting and church growth for the next 10-year will be Golden Myanmar Baptist Mission, Second Decade(2014-2024).

Biblical Basis

1.Our Task: (Incarnation Mission)

Witnessing from Jerusalem to the utter most part of the world by becoming all things to all peoples (Acts.1:8, 1Cor.9:19-22)

2.Our Strength: (Local Church Based Mission)

Each and every local church for church planting mission.(1Pet.2:9, Acts.2:42, Matt. 16:18)

3.Our Message: (Good News with Power)

The message of the Salvation of Jesus Christ to all the living souls will be preached powerfully through spiritual warfare via fasting and prayer. (John 17:3, 1 Tim. 2:4, Mk. 16:15, Eph. 6:12)

4.Our Goal: (Wholistic Mission)

To make disciples of all nations in Myanmar including their soul and spirit, mind and body, society and communities. (Matt. 28:19-20, 1Tim. 2:4, John 10:10)

5.Our Scope: (Unreached Peoples)

Emphasis will be given to each and every people groups(ta-ethna) of Myanmar to let them hear the Godpel message to make a decision for Christ.

Management

1.Myanmar Baptist Convention: MBC will maintain the role of strategy coordination, relevant mission methods research, information and data sharing.

2.Regional Conventions: Working together with associations they will be mainly responsible to survey mission fields and make a strategy decision.

3.Association: They will become overseers and supervisors for mission ventures of all their local churches.

4.Local Churches: Each and every local church will become mainsending body of missionaries to unreached peoples and individuals.

5.Partner Organizations: Under the supervision of Partnership Committee partner organizations will become supporter of mission in Myanmar through financial and strategy assistance.

End Vision

1.In 2024, at the end of this project, ten percent of the whole population will become disciples.

2.In 2024, at the end of this project, there will be 6000 Baptist Churches.

3.In 2024, at the end of this project, all the churches with MBC will be mission-engaged church.

Strategic View

2014: Year of Mission Awareness

As foundation laying step trainings at 12 different places will be conducted on sending missionaries from local churches. Through researching and drafting mission plans Vision Casting and Mission Challenge will be cone for each local church.

2015-2017: First Three -year Phase

Launching 200 New Mission Fields

2015: Finding 200 New Mission Fields

At the first six months MBC and partner organizations will conduct trainings on how to survey and enter into a mission field. Conventions, working together with associations, will lead in field survey and strategy decision making while associations will become overseers of each mission fields. In case of churches do not have mission fields, and churchless mission fields, partner associations and conventions will be invited.

2016: Sharing the Gospel in New Fields:

After trainings on how to share good news and make disciples, all the missionary-sending churches will pray for and send their own missionaries to their chosen mission fields.

2017: Discipling New Believers and Starting New Churches

After trainings on Christian Living and discipleship, worship group formation and planting churches, all the missionaries will continue to share the gospel and lead new believers to Christian living and discipleship while encouraging to worship the Lining God. All the missionary-sending churches will continue to support their missionaries through prayer and other means.
